Weekend Flashback Review – Dance Central 3

Dance Central and it’s other games ended up being some of the best games for the Kinect. They were fun, silly, but more importantly, worked so incredibly well. The songs weren’t amazing, purely because of my own taste, but it was a good laugh to just flail around with friends and dance the night away.

Weekend Flashback Review – APB Reloaded

Originally posted February 14th 2012

Something a bit different this week, APB Reloaded is the free-to-play resurrection of the originally Scottish developed APB. A GTA MMO before GTA Online, APB was Realtime Worlds next title after Crackdown, and it had a good premise. Unofortunately, after it was picked up and rebranded, it suffered from pay-to-win weapons, and repetitiveness. While it has evolved a lot over the years, it’s still going. I don’t know how the game stands currently, but if it’s still getting updated then surely there’s a dedicated fanbase that enjoy the game enough to keep it alive. At least now it stands as a monument to a Scottish Developer that had trouble staying afloat.

Weekend Flashback Review -World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Originally posted January 21st 2011.

So I can’t lie. I’m back into World of Warcraft. Blizzard got their hooks in me and now I’m looking forward to Legion, their newest expansion coming out. I’m having fun doing dailies, building up my garrison, and generally immersing myself in a world I’ve known so well for many years. So, this week, I’m flashing back to when I reviewed the last expansion I played when it actually came out; Cataclysm. Note: I lost the screenshots, so added in selfies of my current WoW Character, not the gnome this review is based on, because screw you Alliance.

Overwatch – A Clash of Heroes

The beta is over, for good this time. Overwatch is already a huge success for Blizzard, and it’s the first new IP (I don’t count Hearthstone) for a very, very long time. We already know it has an amazing art style, superbly designed and diverse characters, and a great cinematic team creating lore for the game. Why is everyone hooked though?

World of WarCraft – My Week in Draenor

I’ve been a player of World of Warcraft since the early days. I played every expansion pack, even raided during Wrath of the Lich King and reviewed Cataclysm when it dropped. Cataclysm was when I stopped playing regularly. I started with friends at University in my first couple of years, switching to a different server and to Alliance (For the Horde!) for them. We got too busy and I just stopped. Then, before Warlords of Draenor hit, I decided to get into Mists of Pandaria when it was on sale. I played for a few weeks, didn’t finish the content and then stopped completely for about the 5th time. Then, last week, Blizzard sent my an email. They had upgraded my account to the newest expansion, and offered a free week of game time. It was hard to resist.

Weekend Flashback Review – Unstoppable Gorg

It reminded me of the days of WarCraft 3’s Tower Defence maps, where the game type really evolved from, and for me, was mainly what I played online during WarCraft 3’s lifespan.

Gears of War 4 Multiplayer Beta – First Impressions

Gears of War 4, now headed by The Coalition rather than Epic Games, is coming soon, and it’s Multiplayer Beta has just opened up for everyone. You get the chance to play 3 new maps, a new game-mode (Dubbed Dodgeball) and good ol’ Team Deathmatch. But has anything really changed or improved for the next in the franchise?

Weekend Flashback Review – The Amazing Spider-Man

Back in 2012 I played The Amazing Spider-Man’s movie tie-in game, and it wasn’t awful. It was a bit unforgettable, with some interesting ideas, but it relied on a combat system attempting to mimic the legendary system devised for the Batman: Arkham series. While no game seems to live up to Spider-Man 2 (The game, not the film) it was at least amusing for a time. It even decided the story should be a sequel, rather than a straight up adaptation. This didn’t really work, as it kind of spoiled some of the plot points of the movie if you picked up the game to get excited about seeing the movie.

DOOM Multiplayer Beta – First Impressions

Soon, it will be upon us. The next eagerly awaited installed of the grandaddy of FPS games, DOOM. The fourth main game in the franchise, it’s aiming to get back to it’s fast paced and hectic roots. We get a little taste of what’s to come in the multiplayer beta, with a couple of weapons and gamemodes to try. I’m going to talk about my time with the PC and Xbox One versions of this beta.

Halo 5 Warzone Firefight – First Impressions of the Beta

I’ve managed to sneak in a few games of Warzone Firefight, the  new co-operative mode added into Halo 5 and revival of the Firefight game mode from ODST originally, and Reach most recently. The mode is currently in a Beta state, with only one of the Warzone maps playable, but it has the entire five rounds for you to play with up to 8 people. Between servers being overwhelmed and Xbox Live having some issues, it was tough to find a game, but after 4 games I’m already excited to see the mode come out of Beta later this year.
