Weekend Flashback Review – Dance Central 3

Dance Central and it’s other games ended up being some of the best games for the Kinect. They were fun, silly, but more importantly, worked so incredibly well. The songs weren’t amazing, purely because of my own taste, but it was a good laugh to just flail around with friends and dance the night away.

Weekend Flashback Review – APB Reloaded

Originally posted February 14th 2012

Something a bit different this week, APB Reloaded is the free-to-play resurrection of the originally Scottish developed APB. A GTA MMO before GTA Online, APB was Realtime Worlds next title after Crackdown, and it had a good premise. Unofortunately, after it was picked up and rebranded, it suffered from pay-to-win weapons, and repetitiveness. While it has evolved a lot over the years, it’s still going. I don’t know how the game stands currently, but if it’s still getting updated then surely there’s a dedicated fanbase that enjoy the game enough to keep it alive. At least now it stands as a monument to a Scottish Developer that had trouble staying afloat.

Weekend Flashback Review -World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Originally posted January 21st 2011.

So I can’t lie. I’m back into World of Warcraft. Blizzard got their hooks in me and now I’m looking forward to Legion, their newest expansion coming out. I’m having fun doing dailies, building up my garrison, and generally immersing myself in a world I’ve known so well for many years. So, this week, I’m flashing back to when I reviewed the last expansion I played when it actually came out; Cataclysm. Note: I lost the screenshots, so added in selfies of my current WoW Character, not the gnome this review is based on, because screw you Alliance.

Weekend Flashback Review – Warlock: Master of the Arcane

A fun twist on a classic, it added in things like multiple maps via portals, spells that you can cast, and of course a number of different mythical creatures. A fun game, with a sequel that released in 2014, The Exiled, it finally added multiplayer, and is a game I’ve always considered picking up.

Weekend Flashback Review – Unstoppable Gorg

Unstoppable Gorg was one of the classic TD games that just felt fun to sit back and play a few rounds. It reminded me of the days of WarCraft 3’s Tower Defence maps, where the game type really evolved from, and for me, was mainly what I played online during WarCraft 3’s lifespan.

Weekend Flashback Review – The Amazing Spider-Man

Back in 2012 I played The Amazing Spider-Man’s movie tie-in game, and it wasn’t awful. It was a bit unforgettable, with some interesting ideas, but it relied on a combat system attempting to mimic the legendary system devised for the Batman: Arkham series. While no game seems to live up to Spider-Man 2 (The game, not the film) it was at least amusing for a time. It even decided the story should be a sequel, rather than a straight up adaptation. This didn’t really work, as it kind of spoiled some of the plot points of the movie if you picked up the game to get excited about seeing the movie.

Either way, from all the fighting games I’ve played, this one is certainly one of the more interesting ones.

Weekend Flashback Review – Nazi Zombie Army

Originally posted March 20, 2013.

Zombie games are all over the place, as well as zombie co-op games. Nazi Zombie Army brought little new to the party, but was at least an interesting spin integrating the mechancis of Sniper Elite to the fold. Slow-motion gunshots, sniper focused weaponry and traps made the game a little more interesting than just pure zombie killing sprees. Hell, it must’ve been good, because there’s three of them now.

What I did play a lot of was Heart of the Swarm, even getting into Platinum in the League Multiplayer game, able to beat out some opponents in the Diamond League. It was great fun when it finally clicked, and I still try to follow StarCraft tournaments to this day. It was the first game that I really enjoyed watching as an E-Sport and it mostly stemmed from this review.

Weekend Flashback Review – Armored Core V

Armored Core Verdict Day was the last entry in the franchise back in 2013, so maybe after Dark Souls 3 is out of the way, From can go back to being the king of Mech games again. Hell, give me another Chromehounds and they’d get all my money.
