Gears of War 4 Multiplayer Beta – First Impressions

Gears of War 4, now headed by The Coalition rather than Epic Games, is coming soon, and it’s Multiplayer Beta has just opened up for everyone. You get the chance to play 3 new maps, a new game-mode (Dubbed Dodgeball) and good ol’ Team Deathmatch. But has anything really changed or improved for the next in the franchise?

Weekend Flashback Review – The Amazing Spider-Man

Back in 2012 I played The Amazing Spider-Man’s movie tie-in game, and it wasn’t awful. It was a bit unforgettable, with some interesting ideas, but it relied on a combat system attempting to mimic the legendary system devised for the Batman: Arkham series. While no game seems to live up to Spider-Man 2 (The game, not the film) it was at least amusing for a time. It even decided the story should be a sequel, rather than a straight up adaptation. This didn’t really work, as it kind of spoiled some of the plot points of the movie if you picked up the game to get excited about seeing the movie.

Dark Souls 3: Review

The third instalment of From Software’s Dark Souls series is finally upon us. With the Director of the first game back in to oversee everything, the game’s tone goes back to the original, and the mechanics from the sequel have been tweaked and trimmed to make it feel a bit more nostalgic. While there are a lot of changes that people will debate about once every single nook and cranny is explored, it’s already safe to say that if this is indeed the last Dark Souls game for a good long while, it’s a great way to send it off.

Weekend Flashback Review – Street Fighter X Tekken

Either way, from all the fighting games I’ve played, this one is certainly one of the more interesting ones.

Halo 5 Warzone Firefight – First Impressions of the Beta

I’ve managed to sneak in a few games of Warzone Firefight, the  new co-operative mode added into Halo 5 and revival of the Firefight game mode from ODST originally, and Reach most recently. The mode is currently in a Beta state, with only one of the Warzone maps playable, but it has the entire five rounds for you to play with up to 8 people. Between servers being overwhelmed and Xbox Live having some issues, it was tough to find a game, but after 4 games I’m already excited to see the mode come out of Beta later this year.

Dungeon of the Endless Stream

This title has two meanings. It’s a stream of Dungeon of the Endless that was a couple of days ago, and it was an endless stream (well, for me at least.) Dungeon of the Endless is a bit hard to describe without visual cues. It’s a Rogue-like, tower defence, procedurally generated dungeon crawler, and acts a bit more like a small scale RTS than anything. The stream consisted of a couple of runs of the game, and it was great fun.

Weekend Flashback Review – Nazi Zombie Army

Originally posted March 20, 2013.

Zombie games are all over the place, as well as zombie co-op games. Nazi Zombie Army brought little new to the party, but was at least an interesting spin integrating the mechancis of Sniper Elite to the fold. Slow-motion gunshots, sniper focused weaponry and traps made the game a little more interesting than just pure zombie killing sprees. Hell, it must’ve been good, because there’s three of them now.
